Are Banks Closed On Good Friday?

Most public services such as the post office, schools and libraries will be open because Good Friday is not considered a federal holiday. However, the stock market will close on Good Friday, so exchanges will not be trading.

11 states consider Good Friday as a state holiday. 9 of the 11 states count it as a full holiday: Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Indiana, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota and Tennessee. In Texas, this holiday is optional and it is a half-day holiday in Kentucky.

Banks Open Good Friday 2021

Good Friday is not among the 2021 federal bank holidays, but that doesn’t mean all banks will open for business as usual. Make sure you verify the hours with your local branch before heading out on Good Friday.

Below are just some of the banks that are open on Good Friday 2021. Even banks not on this list are still likely to be open, though you can always call ahead to confirm your bank’s normal hours of operation.

Banks Closed On Good Friday

No major banks have announced that they will be closed completely on Good Friday. Keep in mind that some banks will let individual locations decide if they close up or not, so be sure to check with your branch.

Most banks will should be open to deposit money, pay bills, ATMs and online/mobile systems will also be available if you need to use the bank.

Bottom Line

Some banks may or may not be closing on Good Friday, so if you need to get things done for this celebratory holiday, then you can do so at any time. Keep in mind that you may still want to call ahead of time to your local bank to see if they will be open. Review the list of banks that are closed to see if your bank is on there.
