Style
As guests enter the building, they’ll be greeted with Spanish tiled floors and the Venetian chandeliers. The grand entrance leads to the hotel’s signature double staircase and the airy two-story lobby and lounge area.
The beautiful property was designed by the Obama White House designer, Michael S. Smith. To match the beach side location, the hotel is covered with muted hues of sandy blue, colorful bookshelves, potted palms, nautical antiques and direct views of Santa Monica Beach. All-in-all Casa del Mar is the perfect execution of a nautical Mediterranean style with a look that’s both classic and fresh.
Rooms
Casa del Mar has 129 spacious rooms and suites that feel romantic yet residential. They feature rich walnut four-poster beds, exquisite John Robshaw fabrics, Raffia-wallpapered bookcases with a curated selection of books and comfortable armchairs.
Bathrooms are built with white Italian Calacatta marble walls and floors, hydrothermal massage tubs, Malin+Goetz amenities and, our favorite, the hotel’s signature yellow rubber ducks.
Facilities
One of the Casa del Mar most noticeable facilities is the outdoor swimming pool and hot tub that overlook the ocean. Besides this, the hotel also offers guests access to a small fitness center and the Sea Wellness Spa.
The resort fee ($34.20 per room, per night) covers high-speed internet, daily exercise classes, daily one-hour bicycle rental, twice daily in-room water bottle service and house cars for transfers within a three-mile radius.
Food & Drink
Casa del Mar has three on location options for guests when it comes to food and drinks: Terrazza Lounge, Catch and the Lobby Lounge.
Terrazza and Catch both feature dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows, perfect for watching the sunset. Terrazza serves casual Italian-meets-Cali cuisine all day. A fan favorite meal is the fluffy ricotta pancakes with the signature Surf Smoothie for breakfast.
Catch offers modern American seafood cuisine for dinner time. There’s a Sushi Happy Hour everyday from Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 6pm. Otherwise, go for some raw Kumamoto Oysters, the Grilled Octopus and the Maine Scallops.
Lastly, the Lobby Lounge is a great spot to indulge in cocktails and small plates while musicians offer entertainment.
Service
Compared to typical “button-down” luxury hospitality, Casa del Mar is a refreshing experience. Service remains attentive yet friendly and laidback. Bell staff and waiters are delightful and knowledgable to make you feel welcomed and cared for.
Location
Casa del Mar can be found tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac, by the Santa Monica pier, right on the beach. The property is within walking-distance of boutiques and the lively restaurant and bars of Main Street. Guests can expect 20 minute drive to Beverly Hills or the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Address: 1910 Ocean Way, Santa Monica
