Credit Score Needed for Chase Cards
Although there is no set credit requirement for Chase’s credit cards, there are general guidelines on certain cards. Like for more premium cards that has high annual fees, it will require you to have a high credit score.
Excellent (720+) | Good-Excellet (700+) | Good (680+) | Average/Fair (600+) |
Chase Sapphire Preferred | Chase World of Hyatt | Chase Freedom Unlimited | Chase Slate |
Chase Sapphire Reseve | Chase United (Club & Explorer) | Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards (all) | Chase Disney Visa |
Chase Marriott Bonvoy Boundless | Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier | ||
Chase Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature |
But take in consideration that the table above is not the definitive guide since a few people reported being approved for the Sapphire Preferred credit card with a score under 700. Plus there are other factors that Chase considers as well.
Income Needed for Chase Cards
Chase considers your income in the decision process, even if there is no official income requirement for Chase cards. They want to make sure that your income can support the credit limit as well as the annual fee.
Moreover some of Chase’s card have minimum credit limits. Like for the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the credit limit is $5,000 and $10,00 for the Sapphire Reserve. So if your income isn’t high enough and Chase isn’t comfortable giving you that much credit then you won’t be approved for the card.
- Visa Traditional: Typically $500 minimum
- Freedom cards, Southwest cards, and Disney cards
- Visa Signature: $5,000 minimum
- Sapphire Preferred, Amazon Prime Rewards, United Explorer cards, Marriott Bonvoy, and World of Hyatt
- Visa Infinite: $10,000 minimum
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
- World Elite Mastercard: $5,000 minimum
- IHG Rewards Club cards
Needed for Chase Business Cards
Chase business card are not the easiest cards to get. All Chase business cards are Visa Signature cards with a minimum of $5,000 credit limit. The two most important things you need is:
- An excellent credit score (usually 720+)
- A for-profit business
When filling out the application, you’ll need to fill out the following:
- Type of business
- Annual revenue
- Number of employees
- Years in business
However, if you don’t have a real business, you won’t be approved no matter how great your credit is.
If you’re business is new and don’t have much business revenue, you don’t need to worry sine Chase will look at your personal credit history and personal income as well.
5/24 Requirement
To be considered for approval, it is recommended to stay under Chase’s 5/24 policy. This is rule is the reason why those with excellent credit scores are also denied.
The 5/24 rule is when you’ve opened five credit card accounts in the past 24 months with any bank, you will be denied for a new Chase card, even if you have a perfect standing credit score. It’s unofficial, but widely accepted.
Starting November 2018, ALL Chase credit cards are subjected to this rule, there are no longer any Chase cards to which this rule does not apply.
Please take note that the 5/24 limit is for new personal card accounts, so if you opened some new business credit cards in the past two years, they may not be counted with some exceptions.
Don’t have too many recent hard inquiries
Not only that, make sure you pay attention to how many inquiries you have on your credit report. Many people have reported that they have been rejected because of too many inquiries. This might let the bank think that you’re desperate for a credit.
So if you’ve been looking for a way to finance, you should wait a couple of months and then apply for a Chase card.
But if you do get denied for this reason then you can call reconsideration and explain the inquiries you have.
The Chase reconsideration hotline number is:
- 1-888-270-2127 (personal cards)
- 1-800-453-9719 (business cards)
Amount of Existing Credit With Chase
With Chase they usually have an amount of credit they are willing to give you with the calculated based on your income and other financial factors.
But if you already have a couple of Chase credit cards or are near or on the limit, they may not want to issue you a new card with more credit.
So if this happens, you just ask if you can transfer some of the exceeded limit to the new card, so this way you’re to getting anymore credit with Chase.
Chase 2/30 Rule
The 2/30 rule is another unofficial rule that states that you cannot be approved for more than two Chase cards within any 30-day period.
Most people who applied have such when it comes to two personal cards at the same time. This will be just one hard inquiry on your credit report. But this usually works best when the two cards are not from the same family, so just like a Chase Freedom Unlimited and a Chase co-branded card.
However, if you’re not sure whether you’d be approved, just try to apply for just one. Then apply for the second one after you’ve gotten approved.
Chase Sapphire Rules
If you’re thinking about applying for a popular Chase Sapphire cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve, please know that you can’t own more than one card in the Sapphire family.
So if you have the Sapphire Preferred card and now want the Reserve, you won’t be able to apply. So if this happens, you have to call customer service and do:
- Upgrade your current Preferred to Reserve, or
- Close your Preferred account and apply to Reserve.
There are some rules regarding the welcome bonus too. You can only earn the welcome bonus on a Sapphire card once every 48 months.
