Here is what a little birdie told me about this story:
- Son: I’m turning sixteen next month and I’m getting a driver license. Can I get that new Red Ford Mustang?
- Dad: Well son, you did good in school… I guess a promise is a promise
- Son: Awesome! and I only have to pay for gas right? and you’ll pay for car insurance?
- Dad: No problem..but I ain’t paying for car insurance under your name.
- Son: Huh?! You don’t want to take that risk of me not getting car insurance.
- Dad: haha… sit back and let me explain to you. I’m not paying for your car insurance..doesn’t mean you don’t have car insurance. Here’s what you do: When you get your driver license next month. Do not use my address on your driver license as your address. Instead, use Grandpa’s or your Uncle Dave’s address. Technically, as far as car insurance company will know. You are living with your Granpa or your Uncle.
- Son: Okay..How will that get me car insurance?
- Dad: Well..of course when we get your Red Mustang. It will be under my name. Technically, I own the car and I will get car insurance since it’s my car. It will be hella cheap since I’m old and my driving record is perfect. You gotta play by insurance company rules. It states clearly that anyone driving my car and get in an accident, my car is insured…as long as they are not living with me who is under 25 years old.
- Son: So let me get this straight…Since my address on my license is different…hence I’m not living with you…hence I can drive “your car”..and the car is fully insured even if it’s my fault in an accident?
- Dad: Correctamundo!
- Son: ehhh…isn’t this…ummm….dirty? bending the rules?
- Dad: you got two choices. 1) I’ll get you that new Red Mustang via my route 2) I’ll get you that 10 years old Kia and you will pay for insurance.
- Son: I guess I will……………..
So readers, how would you end the story? Who would you be? the Dad or the Son? Feel free to add your 2 cents.

No, I didn’t think Hustler had this in mind either.
I sure didn’t mean to imply anything on the “Hu$tler”.
My bank account would sure love it if I could do this. I have two boys at home – 17 and 15 – both on my insurance and four vehicles!
My 17 year old knows when he turns 18 in Nov that if he wishes to keep the truck I bought him (used and still in my name) then he has to get his own insurance. I will be dropping him like a wet dish rag. LOL
If I can just make it 2 more years without losing the rest of my hair (and money!)……
Haha..LOL…Rocketc, you read my mind. Believe me, there are way too many dirty tricks I know. I am in no way advocating this or condoning this course of action. John Grisham writes about corporations evading tax by setting accounts in the Cayman islands..that doesn’t mean he’s telling people to go do it.
My main question is Are you the Son or the Father in this situation? For every one person who is saying I won’t do this, I know there are two people reading this who would given the chance. So to Each his Own.
This website will always be about Hustling. We here do it LEGIT.
Don’t assume the Hustla is advocating this course of action. . . I kind of wonder if he is growing a conscience. . .hmmm.. .
Not only would I consider this unethical, but fraud also. Just because there is a way to skirt an issue with a company to save money doesn’t make it right.
Even if it’s not fraud, it’s risking having a problem should there be a claim. The insurer is going to wonder why you let a 16-year old who doesn’t live with you drive your car, especially one with the same last name as you, and they will probably investigate. Material misstatement on your application could lead to recission of your policy and non-coverage of the claim. Too risky for my tastes.
Sounds like fraud to me. Fraud with the DMV and fraud with the insurance company. I don’t think I would be advocating this. My two cents.
