The settlement will benefit individuals who used a wireless network device between Jan. 1, 2007 and May 15, 2010. The wireless network device must have been accessed by Google’s Street View vehicles and unencrypted “Payload Data” must have been obtained. According to the class action, Google was charged for violating the Federal Wiretap Act. The plaintiffs said that Google illegally intercepted the electronic communications of those without passwords on their routers and other wireless devices with their Street View vehicles.
