After the Bank’s liquidation, Huntington and David Deshler formed a partnership to better serve the people of Ohio. Huntington eventually became the sole proprietor of P.W. Huntington & Company upon purchasing the shares of his partner.

Huntington Bank formed Community Banking Group in 1986 with 43 banking offices in small cities across central and northern Ohio. This expansion was done to address the needs of customers in rural areas. It was involved in small scale venture as well as large ones. In 1987, Huntington Bank introduced Global Trade Access, a computer-based automated system that allowed customers who conducted international transactions to issue and receive information on their letter of credit activity. Huntington Bank received the Governor’s Excellence in Exporting Award for GTA in 1988.
