Style
The Langham, Chicago is the first hotel to open within a Van der Rohe skyscraper, occupying the bottom 13 floors of the landmark IBM Building. The elegant public areas feature marble, steel and blown glass installations, that reflect the architect’s signature steel-and-glass designs. The lobby is particularly impressive with 22-foot-ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, large-scale paintings by modern and contemporary artists, and dangling glass pebbles.
Rooms
This location includes 316 rooms and suites that are decked in warm, neutral tones and accened with rich textiles and dark wood to create an open and inviting space. The 516-square-foot Deluxe Premier Room featured the Langham’s signature Blissful Bed and a large bath with a deep soaking tub and rainfall shower, stocked with Chuan Spa bath amenities. The best part is the floor-to-ceiling windows that offers gorgeous views of the city.
TIP: Splurge on a Club Level room and enjoy complimentary breakfast buffet, afternoon tea, cocktails and snacks all day and evening, butler service and more.
Facilities
Like other Langham Properties, this one features a Chuan Spa. The 22,000-square-foot Chuan Spa includes locker rooms with heated loungers, herbal steam rooms and Himalayan salt saunas. In addition, there is a 67-foot indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
For a good workout, head into the fitness studio is equipped with endurance and cardio equipment and has weekly group fitness and aromatherapy yoga classes. You can also reserve a plush private screening room that seats 12. Bring your own DVD, or borrow one from the hotel.
Food & Drink
The Langham, Chicago features two amazing food and drink spots: Pavilion and Travelle.
The Pavilion features seasonal American cuisine. You can enjoy your meal in a light-filled, elegant space with gorgeous city views. Take time to enjoy the infamous Langham Afternoon Tea with Wedgwood or The Pavilion Cocktails and Light Fare, a daily happy hour from 5pm to 6pm.
Travelle serves up contemporary seasonal American fare, drawing from the nation’s rich culinary history and using fresh ingredients. The wraparound bar within the restaurant is one of the city’s best kept secrets. Along side the carefully-curated wine list, Travelle offers an art-inspired cocktail menu. The adjoining lounge overlooks the Chicago River and gives panoramic city views and an impressive 30-foot digital piece of art that lines the wall.
Service
Right off the bat at The Langham, the concierge asked us we needed help with dinner reservations. This personal service and attentiveness that The Langham offers is what makes it so unique to other hotels. The staff is attentive, warm, and helpful all throughout the stay.
Location
The Langham lays right on the Chicago River and peers out at Lake Michigan. The hotel is just north of the Loop and only a block from Michigan Avenue shops. Guests can take a short 1o minute walk to Millenium Park, and the bars and nightclubs of River North are a short stroll away.
