I just got this email very recently from Lending Club($25 bonus):
The S&P 500 has gained 36.96% over the last 12 months, bringing some much-needed comfort to investors. The loyalty of the buy and hold investor, however, has not been rewarded. As of April 30, 2010, the S&P 500 has returned only 2.63% over the past 5 years, and shockingly returned -0.19% over the last 10 – and these numbers include the recent big run-up.
On May 3, 2010 Barron’s stated:”Certain top investment strategists are telling clients that this year, ‘Sell in May and go away’ is an even better idea than usual.” Now may be the time to consider going away from the equity markets and diversifying your portfolio into alternative asset classes. Lending Club’s net annualized return of over 9.5%* can provide an alternative with less volatility and more consistent returns.

Currently, Lending Club is charging their borrowers 7.37% to 20.11% interest rate depending on their credit grade. Funding the type of credit grade is all up to you. The greater the risk you want, the greater the reward. Since I like to take very little risk, I have fund all my loans with credit grade of A. Luckily, no default so far on any of my loans.
My experience has been a positive one. I have funded several loans and the return has been good. There is no hard pull on my credit report. My recommendation is to fund your account and try out their lending program. You will get your $25 bonus money with nothing to lose since it’s free money.
These notes offered by Lending Club are too risky. They can’t be traded on any exchange or even over the counter. They can only be traded on a trading platform set up by Lending Club. Quite a few of the highest rated notes are trading there at a 5% discount to face value.
There has been some discussion about this over at https://www.mymoneyblog.com/ That 9.5% rate seems bogus because the Lending Club hasn’t been around a while. The longer the loan, the more likely it is that it will go into default. Thus the 9.5% is based off of many new loans that couldn’t possibly default yet. At that site he determined the average 3 year return so far was more like 2-4%.
