Style
The Lowell New York demonstrates a restrained, old-world glamour aesthetic. It is decorated with marble-floored foyer, a navy-clad staff, art, antiques and fresh flowers. The property was originally built in 1929 and recently got a three-year facelift with more than $25 million spent on the ground floor alone.
Rooms
This location has only 74 guestrooms, each one unique in size, shape and decor. The Lowell New York is the perfect example of a boutique hotel. Each room and suite was designed by Michael S. Smith, Obama’s White House decorator, and features hardwood floors, a deep tub and walk-in shower, as well as fresh flowers. The range of bathroom amenities, by DDC28, was created exclusively for the hotel.
The Hollywood Suite is designed to resemble a luxurious Manhattan apartment with Strié and de Gournay wallpaper, a curated collection of Assouline books, exclusive black and white portraits and a wood-burning fireplace. The room was completed with a landscaped terrace with wrought-iron seating and dining, water fountains and seasonal florals.
Facilities
When it comes to facilities, The Lowell New York’s relatively small property means that there is not much room for extra facilities. With the property available, the hotel has a spacious fitness center in house. Additionally, guests have complimentary access to the state-of-the-art Equinox gym that is two blocks away.
Food & Drink
The Lowell New York houses two restaurants and two bars. The Pembroke Room is a European-inspired salon where breakfast and weekend brunch is served. We took part in the afternoon tea service, which was as decadent as we expected from a New York institution.
What The Lowell New York is lacking in facilities they make up with food and drink. The hotel houses two restaurants and two bars. The Pembroke Room is a European-inspired salon where breakfast and weekend brunch is served. The afternoon tea service offered is as decadent experience.
For lunch and dinner, Marjorelle offers standout French cuisine made with a Moroccan twist from celebrated restaurateur Charles Masson and Chef Emmanuel Niess. The pistachio soufflé served with crème anglais is a fan favorite.
Exclusively available to hotel guests, The Club Room is a hidden lounge where you can enjoy a drink or meal overlooking the garden, or relax with a nightcap in front of the fireplace.
The Jacques Bar offers a livelier experience. This bar features perfectly-executed cocktails by expert bartenders. Along side your drink, you can enjoy light fare and signature dishes made from seasonal ingredients.
Service
The smaller property of this hotel is not always a bad thing. This makes it easier for the impeccable service to seem more intimate. As guests settle into their rooms and suites, staff attend to them with drinks and snacks. In the case that weather is poor, each room has umbrellas kept in them.
The personal and thoughtful touches from beginning of your visit to the end is what makes this hotel so amazing. 75% of hotel guests have reported to be returning visitors.
Location
The Lowell New York resides in a quaint and leafy street on the Upper East Side. This location is just a block from Central Park, close to the Zoo and The Pond. Guests can experience retail options, like Bloomingdale’s and Barney’s, a few blocks away, or the MoMA through a 20-block walk north along the edge of the park.
