A Mango account is a rip off. There are too many fees and unusual requirements to earn six percent on a savings account. I am sure that it is not a popular deal. It is very difficult to get help from a live individual and the customer service representatives are useless, incompetent, and unprofessional. I do not recommend this particular card and account. It is not good and meant for one looking to build savings.
This is a terrible deal. You have to spend $1,500+ each month to get the 6% APR. If you have a credit card that earns 1.5%, for 1 year you’d earn $270 ($1,500 × 12 months x 1.5%) on the credit card spend. With Mango you’d earn $150 ($2,500 x 6%).
Agreed. ***STAY FAR AWAY*** After realizing service was the worst ever. I tried to transfer my money back to myself but they block outbound transfers. Called and requested cancellation and it took a good 2 months to get my money back after multiple calls with terrible customer service by people who cannot speak English. BEWARE.
I hate this company. terrible customer service. honestly the 6 % isn’t even worth it. they don’t care about their customers at all. so damn cheap they have to outsource and then wont even train their customer reps properly. I m sure its not the first time someone has complained about their poor customer service, and I don’t see any changes being made. don’t stick around just for the money, these people are scum.
Take a look at the mulytiple very negative reviews elsewhere about reliability of information, changing rates without warning, useless customer support, many people waiting for their money back, warnings about being under a different system of protections thgan regular debity and credit cards..

I thought I’d include what customer service wrote back to me after I asked for more clarification. In their email, they confirmed that said, disturbingly, that “yes, you do need to use the card to its full potential such as making purchases as this is the intent of the Mango card.” What the heck does full potential mean, I asked? This was their response. “Making transactions with the card such as making purchases, loading the card, getting their payroll or federal benefits onto their card, paying bills, and not just collecting interest at the end the month. The intent of the Mango card is for the cardholders to actually use the card like a real bank account.” In other words, they reserve the right, it sounds, to give you the interest or not, depending on their perception of whether you are fulfilling the “intent” of the card, and regardless of what is actually written on the website.
I just called their customer service to ask a few questions before opening an account. Phone system was bizarre — only options were to enter an account number or report a lost card. I entered random numbers five times in a row and was finally given the option to press 0 for a representative (before when I hit 0 it restarted from the beginning). Hitting 0 failed about 10 times (“incorrect card number”) before I was finally patched through. All I wanted to do was make sure I knew exactly what it took to receive the 6% interest. I was told, however, than in addition to having direct deposit to the card, I also had to use the card “1 or 2 times a month.” That is literally listed nowhere on the site. I combed the terms and agreements for it and it’s just not there. I told the representative, and she said that the requirement would be explained to me after I got the card. WTH? There’s something off about this operation — I wouldn’t recommend it. I don’t think they’d straight up take your money, but I definitely think they’d operate on the margins of proper business practices. I’m not surprised by the experience of other customers that they’ve had trouble withdrawing money.
I agree with Beware!! Money is locked in, I would have to call at midnight to 6am to get anyone to answer the phone….. and believe me, I stayed on hold during regular business hours for over an hour and got no one, multiple times. Took 3 months and 4 phone calls to get my money back. I kept getting a new date each time of when the account was or would be closed, when my money was going to be sent out. The reps were very nice, but terrible overall experience doing this.
BEWARE!!! When they changed the direct deposit requirement to $500 and switched from mastercard to visa, I decided to close the account. They would not allow me to pull the money from Mango using ACH pull from a real bank even though I was able to fund the pre-paid card via ACH. I had the 5k in the account and it took them 2 months to return my money. I was very worried. I would call them and every time they would say it would take 2-4 weeks. I would call back after 4 weeks and again they say it will take 2-4 weeks. After multiple calls and transfer to supervisor, they say “there is nothing we can do”. “You need to wait 2-4 more weeks.” I said I have already waited 2 months and the supervisor said to me, “you have my word you will receive your refund in 2-4 weeks. That latest conversation with the supervisor was on a Friday night, the check was in my mailbox on 3 days later on Monday with a forever stamp on the envelope. They have no idea what they are doing there and I will never trust any money with them ever again. I do have to admit that everything worked well until it came time to cancel. Customer service is India. If you feel it is acceptable to take 2 months to receive your money and you are comfortable with your personal information/SSN being in the hands of people in a 3rd world country, then this is the pre-paid card for you.

This is nice and all, but the big drawback that I’ve found is that they require s deposit the $500 into the account every single month in order to get the 6%, but then I find that it’s no way to transfer my money out easily if I choose to – unless of course I use the card to keep spending the money. This makes me feel like my money is locked in.
