Southern Wine & Spirits agreed to a $5.5 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit claiming that it charged higher late fees than allowed by California law.
According to the class action lawsuit, the company violated California liquor laws by charging 2% on late payments. Under California law, the company was only allowed to charge 1% per month, the class action lawsuit contends.
Southern Wine & Spirits is a national liquor distributor known as Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits following a 2016 merger with Glazer’s.
Southern Wine hasn’t admitted wrongdoing but agreed to a $5.5 million settlement to resolve the late fee class action lawsuit.
