Again, this is all legit. I see nothing wrong with asking for a better deal. It’s like buying a new car. You want to pay the full price, be my guest. Exactly, nobody pay the full price on a new car. This is just the same. You are signing up a new service, and it’s their choice to offer you the deal or not. Here come the hard part.
Now that you have the phones and they have been activated. Your have the minimum $69.99 plan, with no text, no data, and no text messaging. That’s okay because those are easy to get. You must first work on getting a lower price with your new plan.
Strategy 1: Get the lowest possible discounts before anything else.
You have a 30-day trial with Sprint. This means that you can always cancel within 30 days and there is no early termination fee. This is where your advantage is because CSR knows that you have that choice and is willing to accommodate you as much as possible. They don’t advertise this, but there is a Retention 1000 minutes family plan for $50 a month for the first two phones and $9.99 per additional line.

Dial *2, and say Cancel to take you directly to Retention. The conversation should be similar to this.
- CSR: Can I help you?
- You: Yes, hi. I just got a new family plan with Sprint less than a week. I’m not sure I really want to keep this.
- CSR: We certainly don’t want you to leave. I’m sure we can come up with something to meet your needs.
- You: I don’t know if I can afford this family plan. It’s still expensive for me and my family, especially during this hard economic time. Maybe something around $50 a month.
- CSR: Not a problem, I certainly understand. Just to let you know, we have this $50 Power Pack Family Plan for 1000 shared minutes. I can get you sign up for that.
- You: Tell me more? *(Don’t act too excited, because they can still give you more)
- CSR: It’s $50 a month for 1000 minutes, free 7pm and weekends, and $9.99 per additional line.
- You: Okay, go ahead and sign me up to the $50 plan.
- CSR: Okay, I got you signed up. Anything else?
- You: My friends also have Sprint and they have additional discounts. I heard they got $10 monthly credit and loyalty discount. You think I can get those too?
- CSR: Let me talk to my manager.
As you can see, this conversation is all about lowering your monthly bill. Don’t worry about the free text or extra minutes just yet. The more freebies you get, the less likely you gonna get the discounts. You want to get the discounts on your bill first because those are the toughest to get. The $50 a month plan is the first important step. Call back again, and again, until they give you that plan. They know that you can cancel within 30 days, and that is your leverage.
Call them up again, and tell them about the $50 code credit 50YDC
Once you get your $50 plan, call back Retention again. Go through the same strategy with the “economic hardship” bullcrap and ask for more discounts. Don’t take the freebies if they offer you. Right now, all you care about is the discounts on your bill. I know of these discounts on your monthly bill:
1. Up to 20% loyalty discount per month.
2. $10 credit toward your bill per month.
3. 5% Credit Union discount.
After you get as much discounts as possible, be sure to get your company discount automatically through these sites:
https://www.sprint-discount.com/
https://www.evpdiscount.com/
I have seen as high as 27% company discount on your bill. Once you have as much discounts as possible, we can go to work on the freebies. Also, switch back and forth with paper and paperless statement for free $5 credit.
Strategy 2: Get as much freebies as possible
You should have gotten all the discounts in during the first week. Now, call them back, *2 and say Cancel, because you want to talk to Retention only. They can always give you freebies. You probably want to ask for 2 freebies at a time and not ask for all 7 or 8 freebies in one call. Again, same thing. You are thinking of cancelling.
- CSR: How can I help you?
- You: Hi. I’m not sure I want to keep my family plan. It seems like my friends got a better deal.
- CSR: I see you got our $50 family plan for 1000 minutes. That is a really good plan.
- You: Yea, but i get no text messaging or data or anything like that.
- CSR: Lets see what I can do. We want you to stay with us, so I think we can get you those. How about free 500 text a month per phone and a $5 data plan, blah blah blah.
- You: I see. Well, I like to keep everything free since I can’t afford anything much. Can I get free unlimited text and unlimited data plan?
- CSR: Let me talk to my manager. Okay, she agree to give it to you. Let me add it on your plan.
- You: Thanks.
The above scenario should be over and over again until you get all the freebies. You might not get it the first time. But always call back until you exhausted all your freebies. They could include the following I know of:
Free data plan (free internet)
Free text messaging
Free 5pm or free 6pm
Free 300 bonus minutes per phone
Free Picture messaging
Free Sprint Pick 3 (unlimited calls to 3 numbers)
Free First Incoming Minute
Free calls to home number
Also, call them back to see if you can get a higher end phone at a steep discount. Say you hate your phone and it doesn’t work well. You want to get a PDA phone like the Centro, Ace, etc. Usually it’s a lot cheaper than what you see online. Tell you saw it free on another site and such, who know what they can offer you. Always say you wanted free and see what they can offer you next. Then counteroffer it.
Strategy 3: Sign up line 3-5 for cheap or free
Now you should get as much discounts as freebies as possible. If you miss out a few, that is okay. Signing up a new line on your family plan is like music to their ears. I think they get bonus or good performance grade whenever they can get you signing up a new line. This is where you should milk out as much as possible.
Again, *2 and say Cancel. Same scenario as strategy 2, except at the end of the call, you go:
- CSR: Anything else I can help you with?
- You: I’m thinking of getting another line. What can I get if I added another line? I think I need more minutes.
- CSR: It’s only $9.99 per additional line.
- You: You think I can get the extra line for free or $10 credit each month toward my bill to offset the $9.99 charge? **(Doesn’t hurt to try, you might get it)
- CSR: I’m sorry, unfortunately I can’t do that. But I can offer you 300 extra bonus minutes per phone for you.
- You: My friend also got $70 credit toward a new line. If I can get the bonus 300 minutes and the $70 credit, along with the same features on my family plan of free text, free data, etc, then sign me up?
- CSR: Not a problem. I can get you that same features.
- You: Okay, sign me up.
The above scenario works most of the time. Always call back to another CSR if you feel like you can get a better deal. The 70 dollars credit is a must. Always get that for signing up a new line. You probably want to pick a free phone first. Then call back later with “this phone is no good and want a PDA phone for free or cheap price.” Now repeat it with line 4 and line 5. Feel free to add any other freebies that you didn’t get it before. Remind them the new line should have the same free features like all other lines.
Strategy 4: Renew to get free $70 per line each month and a new phone
Before, you can even do dropped calls to get $10 off per phone each month. Since they won’t let you do that anymore, you must use the renewal method to get $70 off each month. What is the renewal method? Well, from my experience, you can renew your phone per line and get $70 credit toward your bill. Each line can be renewed every sixth month.
Say you are in the 7th month. You want to do this with your first phone line. Definitely do not want to renew all your phones all at once because you want to repeat the process each month. Dial *2 and say Cancel:
- CSR: How can I help you?
- You: My number is …… and I want to renew this line only. I heard that I can get a $70 credit to renew this line.
- CSR: Not a problem. I can do that for you.
- You: Thanks.
This always work. Or you can write via email them within your account with something like this. “Hi, My name is..account #. I love sprint and enjoy the great services. I would like to renew this line #### because I heard I could get a $70 credit toward my bill. Please renew my line ### for a $70 credit. thanks”
Also, you can get a new phone every 6 months for free. I know it’s supposed to be 12 months. But if you smooth talk to Retention, they can get you a free phone like the Samsung 300 right now. I usually get these to ebay for an extra $50 bucks.
Repeat the process the next month with another line. Then again with line 3, 4, and 5.
Conclusion:
As you can see, a lot of YMMV with the above steps. You might get it or not. But keep trying until you do. You got 30 days to try it out. At the end, you can end up with a plan like this:
$50 a month with 2500 minutes, and all the freebies
$9.99 per additional lines so another $30
Plan is $80 with 35% total montly discount and $10 credit each month. Along with $70 renewal credit and free phone to ebay for $50 each month. You can imagine the savings. If you are successful with this, let me know how it all went.
Peace out playa!
Wow! This is quite the hustle. You mentioned it in the context of family plans, but any idea if this would work on individual lines as well? I have a Sprint line that is now out of contract so I figure now is a good time to work it. If no one knows I’ll give it a try and report back what happens.
My only complaint on Sprint is coverage areas, but if I can get the free Airave too that solves a lot of my problems.
