thanks for this info! i just signed up for a star one checking/savings accounts today (May 6, 2017). according to customer service, the referral bonus was *supposed* to end last year (2016) but it is still going!
i used my barclay rewards cc to fund $1000 after calling barclays to set cash advance limit to $1. FYI barclays says once the cash advance limit is adjusted it can NEVER be changed. Star One lets you fund up to $1,000, split between checking/savings. I funded $500 for checking and $500 for savings using my barclays cc. thanks again for posting this neat trick. i got to earn rewards/points while opening a high yield checking/savings account. FYI- star one’s “rewards checking” provides the same 1.1% APY as its savings account as long as i use the debit card 10x/month and keep a $5k balance (or deposit $300/mo). if i don’t meet these requirements, the checking APY lowers to 0.25%. Interest is compounded monthly, not daily.
