Here’s a $30/month cellphone plan from Virgin Mobile, which will be offering the Apple iPhone starting today, June 29th, 2012. The plans available are very affordable, but you will have to pay the unsubsidized price for the iPhone. Please note that you will not be able to activate an iPhone from another carrier such as Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T. The 8GB iPhone 4 will be sold for $549 and the 16GB iPhone 4S will be $649. Despite these steep costs for the phone, the money you save on a monthly basis compared to other carriers will make up for this pretty quickly.
The $30/month plan will get you 300 call minutes, unlimited text messages, and “unlimited” data (slowed down after 2.5 GB each month). With a $50/month plan, you’ll get unlimited minutes in addition to text and data. To get the $5 discount, you have to sign up for automatic monthly payments with a credit card, debit card or PayPal account. There is no necessary contract either.

@Kristian, Specifically, which PagePlus plan are you using? How much data do you use? Thanks.
Kristian, thanks so much for this advice! Been looking to switch from my AT&T iPhone plan for some months now!!
This is not the cheapest way to use an iphone. Virgin is an MVNO. It is not the cheapest MNVO available. I use pagepluscellular.com for my verizon branded iphone 4. I currently pay $76 PER YEAR. This is all prepaid, however, I use a voip provider, from google which is know as google voice. It is free, but better viop and sip providers are out there while not free are a low, low cost. I bought my phones off ebay for much less than virgin and can use them on any verizon MVNO that exists. This is a much better hustle than virgin mobile!
Thanks for the tip. I have Verizon now. Just have to see when my contract is up. I could sell my current phone which would let me buy the Virgin phone for half off I think. That will make saving $45 a month on the new plan that much sweeter. I will recoup my switch in half a year and it will be awesome savings going forward.
